I put Puppy Linux on a netbook so I could access it after I broke something in the previous Windows XP that ran on it. Turning into a Puppy Linux machine worked (using Slacko 5.6), however there's one frustrating problem I cannot seem to get ANY help on and have wasted 6 hours of my day today on it -.PET files. The programs I can get from the Puppy Package Manager will work and install correctly, but when I download individual.pet files from somewhere online, like a different repository or forum or something, it will not run. I download.pet file. I left-click on it. It asks me if I want to install.
Postfs1: That's more or less only if you're not using a relatively recent version of Puppy. I think Puppy's supported installing directly from.deb files (and RPMs?) since Puppy 4.3, or so. (Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, though.).
It successfully installs and goes to the menu. I go to the menu and click on it. Nothing happens.
But when I get apps and programs from the woefully underlisted Puppy Package Manager, they all run fine and let me access them. What am I doing wrong here? Does anyone know what this is, because I certainly can't find this exact thing referenced or listed anywhere. I ran Puppy many years ago, and thought it was a good idea for its time. From the terminal program in Puppy, make sure that the executable bit is set for the file that you are trying to run. Superstamps Download Music on this page.
You may find the program's location by using the which command, e.g. Which gedit which prints /usr/bin/gedit So ls -g /usr/bin/gedit will display the files permission bits and other information. -rwxr-xr-x 1 root 10536 Mar 3 2016 /usr/bin/gedit then use the chmod command to actually change the permissions.
In UBUNTU one can do this by right mouse button clicking on the files icon and from the pop-up menu make the Properties selection which brings up a window that has a Permissions tab. Perhaps puppy has something similar by now?
