It's weird, you'd think that having millions of plugins would help make you make unique stuff, but you end up sounding like everyone else who takes that approach imo- I would stick with a couple of synths to start with- do you know much about synthesis techniques? If you do, then having a few different synths of each type wouldn't hurt, but don't swamp yourself with a million subractive synths if you don't, because they'll all sound largely the same really unless you 'abuse' the way the synth is created. If you're *really* into experimenting, get yourself Reaktor, you can make your own synths, fx, samplers, etc, from the absolute basic components- that way you will get unique sounding stuff. It goes over my head though! Maybe something like z3ta+, moog modular and absynth would be good to be going on with, there's a lot of experimentation to be had with those three.

Spektral Delay is a good fx plugin to experiment with too. Don't confuse price with quality, it's an easy mistake to make but like they say- some of the best things in life are free.

Z3ta used to be free, but it's been upgraded a bit and is now being sold after being bought by one of the big guys, and it's one of the most powerful synths on the market. Also- if I were you I'd listen to how they sound before plumping for them.

You're more likely to get uniqueness with weird little $20 synths than a big well used synth, due to less people using it and the likelyhood it will have more quirks. Please don't turn into one of those dudes who has 500 vstis, pulls the decent presets and 'easy sounds' out of each one once or twice and just mashes together a track with them- that's just ejay for the pretentious. It'll be much easier and more productive to experiment with one or two synths to the point where you know exactly how the sound will change before you press a button, then expand- as you'll be able to take a sound from your head and program it right in. Ps the one other thing about free/cheap stuff is if you start making money off your tracks, it's only right to buy the software. If you're using cheap stuff you can get it easy and shot your cds with a much easier conscience.

Dood, you wanna listen to what people are saying here, it's a serious waste of time installing all those plugins, if you spend your time make sure you have every possible top of the range plugin I will personally be amazed if you succeed in making just 1 half decent track. All you need is a sampler, 1 or 2 synths and a few decent effects, once you've mastered them and understand exactly what they are capable of then you might be more aware of what you need/want next.
